Investigation 691 · Preliminary Rates
Preliminary anti-dumping securities now apply to aluminium windows and doors imported from China, at rates set exporter by exporter. If a Sydney job has stalled on a re-priced quote, send it through: SMIRO quotes in AUD and locks the price when you sign.
Preliminary findings; the final recommendation is due 16 December 2026. How the rates work
Before We Quote
These are the things Sydney buyers ask about most, and each one changes the specification. We ask about all of them on every NSW enquiry.
Homes under Sydney Airport flight paths often carry AS 2021 indoor noise limits in their consent, new housing beside busy roads and rail lines is designed to 35 dB(A) in bedrooms at night, and Western Sydney International operates without a curfew. Most of a window's acoustic performance comes from the glass, so we quote laminated acoustic glass where your acoustic report calls for it, in sealed systems rather than louvres for bedrooms.
Since October 2023 new NSW homes have to reach the equivalent of 7 NatHERS stars, and the BASIX certificate (or the NatHERS assessment behind it) sets the U-value and SHGC each window has to meet. More glass layers are not always the answer: on a west wall the SHGC matters as much as the U-value. Send the certificate and we quote each opening to its numbers, with Low-E where it is needed.
About 50 children a year fall from windows or balconies in NSW, according to NSW Health. The building code requires bedroom windows with a floor two metres or more above the ground outside to open no more than 125 mm or be screened, NSW strata buildings have had to fit window safety devices since 2018, and the state is considering extending the rule to most homes. Tell us which rooms and levels are involved and every affected opening is flagged in the quote.
Bushfire-prone land runs through the Hills, Hornsby, the Sutherland Shire, the Blue Mountains and the new south-west release areas. Every home on it has to meet AS 3959 for its BAL rating, which sets the glass, frame and screening requirements. Tell us the BAL when you enquire so we can confirm which systems suit it before you compare prices.
Councils such as the Inner West generally keep timber double-hung or casement windows on the street front of heritage homes. Rear additions the street cannot see usually have more room, and that is where aluminium sliding, stacker and bi-fold doors open a terrace to the garden. For new work that wants the traditional proportion, aluminium double-hung windows are available too.
NSW builds more granny flats than any other state, and the 2024 low- and mid-rise housing reforms opened more lots to dual occupancies and terraces. For repeat designs we keep the window schedule, glass make-up and supply consistent from one dwelling to the next, with paperwork the certifier can sign off.

How It Works
Floor plans or a window schedule, plus the BASIX certificate or energy report if you have it. Early on? Send what you have and the rest can follow.
Each opening is priced to the glazing values, wind rating and exposure your documents set, and anything that does not add up is flagged.
Accept the quote and pay the deposit to book production. Lead time is typically 8–12 weeks.
Delivery to your NSW site, and whether installation is included, are set out in the quote before you commit.
Sydney Project Quote
A name and a phone number or email is all the form needs. Anything else you can attach makes the first quote closer to the final one:
We don't have a Sydney showroom. NSW projects are handled by our sales team by phone and email, with showrooms in Brisbane and Adelaide.

Yes. We quote and supply aluminium windows and doors for projects across Sydney and NSW, including commercial work in Kemps Creek and Rouse Hill. There is no Sydney showroom; NSW enquiries are handled by our sales team by phone, email and project documents.
It depends on the project. Tell us whether you need supply only or supply and install, along with the site address, and the quote will say exactly what is covered.
Yes. Laminated acoustic glass is available on request, subject to the window or door system. If your consent or acoustic report sets a noise target, send it and we will quote a glass make-up and system against it. Homes inside the Western Sydney International noise insulation program are treated by the program's own contractor, so we quote homes outside it.
Yes. Send the BASIX certificate with your plans. Where it lists glazing requirements, each window is priced against the U-value and SHGC it sets. Where it relies on a NatHERS assessment, send the assessor's report as well.
Bedroom windows with a floor two metres or more above the ground outside must open no more than 125 mm, or be screened, under the building code. Tell us which rooms and levels are involved and every affected opening is flagged in the quote, so the restriction is planned with the window rather than added after handover.
Often on the parts the street cannot see. Councils such as the Inner West generally require timber windows that match the period on street-facing elevations of heritage items and conservation areas, while rear additions have more room for aluminium. Check your council's development control plan, and send the approved plans so we quote what is allowed.
That depends on the site, not the suburb. Your engineer or building documents should give the site's wind classification (for most houses, under AS 4055), and the windows need an AS 2047 rating that meets it. Exposed coastal and elevated sites often need a higher rating than sheltered ones.
Preliminary securities under Investigation 691 have applied to aluminium windows and doors imported from China since 15 October 2026, at rates set exporter by exporter. SMIRO quotes in AUD and your price is locked when you sign: if the final rate changes or duty is applied retrospectively, we absorb it. The final recommendation is due 16 December 2026.
Floor plans or a window schedule are enough to start. The BASIX certificate or NatHERS report, any acoustic report, the BAL rating if the land is bushfire-prone, and whether you need supply only or supply and install all make the quote more accurate. Lead time is typically 8–12 weeks from a confirmed order.
